Prior to branching out on her own through ING and then National Planning Corporation in 2001, Carolyn spent 4 years with Reliastar/ING Financial Partners Inc. In 2016, Carolyn joined Discovery Financial Centers, Inc., headquartered in Red Wing, Minnesota, as an LPL Investment Advisor representative. Carolyn is still part of the Discovery Financial Centers, Inc. Network, but she has now taken her business to the next level by establishing Oberfeld Investments, LLC.
While at Reliastar/ING Carolyn offered individual financial planning services along with providing financial education to employees at companies throughout the Midwest. Topics of education seminars included general financial planning, retirement planning, risk management, college funding, long-term care planning, and estate planning. Carolyn taught over sixty seminars on these topics in a 4-year span. Carolyn has also taught continuing education courses for licensed insurance agents through Kaplan, Inc. (previously Dearborn Financial Services).

In this role, she had a unique opportunity to gain experience to look at all aspects of financial planning, from individual investment opportunities to the maximization of employer benefits for her clients.
Carolyn obtained her license to sell securities in September of 1987 and spent the first 3 years in the financial services industry on the retail brokerage side. In 1990, she joined Benefit Designers, Inc., looking for a path in the industry that focused more on total financial planning services and long-term relationships.
Carolyn obtained her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ certification in 2007.
Carolyn currently collaborates with her clients to help define their financial goals and chart a course designed with the goal of long-term financial confidence.
Carolyn attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the University of Minnesota with an emphasis on Public Relations and Communications. She lives in Eagan with her husband of over twenty-five years, Mike. Her 31-year-old stepson is married and lives in Vadnais Heights with his wife and their son.
Carolyn loves travel, reading, and helping to support her community. During COVID, she discovered a newfound passion for golf. Her high handicap is reflective of the fact that passion does not necessarily translate to talent.
